What a beautiful sound Built For The Sea create!! This stunning EP, 'Mise En Scene', is the latest release by San Francisco indie rockers Built For The Sea; an exquisite five track beauty that's as different as it is refreshing!! At times near anthemic and at others placid and descriptive 'Mise En Scene' is a real mood-shifter that's really got to be heard and enjoyed in its entirety to fully appreciate.

With the stunning vocals of Lia Rose generating a sultry but sensual mood and articulate guitars of Jon Latimer weaving, soaring and punctuating, Built For The Sea dole out their trademark sound. The rhythm section of bassman Daniel McKenzie and drummer Eric Kuhn lay down a perfectly harmonious and subtle backdrop on which the others build and elaborate. Latest addition to the outfit, Michael Fecskes, heightens the mood with awesome cello work that deepens the feel and increases the atmosphere.

On the softer side of rock and at times bordering on 'prog', Built For The Sea generate ambience and mood as they cruise their way through these epically proportioned tracks. The arrangements are generous, specific and wonderfully weighted and allow full access to every component that goes to make up the whole. It's moody, haunting and at the same time vibrant; at times Built For The Sea, with their classy combination of instruments, generate drama that teeters on the edge of contemporary theatrics - it's a stunning coming together of beautiful sound that's further heightened by the extra instrument that is Lia's precise and skilful application of laid-back, effortless voices.

'Mise En Scene' by Built For The Sea is a sensational modern work; it's enchanting stuff that pushes the indie envelope and proves that modern 'rock' music can be wholesome as well as instant. There are no prima-donna excursions here, just a band playing as one and creating an earthy organic sound that's individual, original and absolutely breathtaking!!
