Brigada Mercy

Single - Roto Chico

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Roto Chico' @ 'CD quality'

This actually came as a bit of a surprise; I think I was expecting something much more punkish and aggressive but what I got was beautifully quaint gypsy jazz melodic - a distinctive and distinguished sound, a breath of fresh air, a real little gem!

'Roto Chico' by Brigada Mercy is a really catchy little song that's got a back beat that Tom Waits would be proud of. It's tuneful, melodic and very singalonable; 'Roto Chico' is rammed with hooks and is so bloody irritatingly unforgettable that I can see it doing extremely well in the 'charts'. Simplistic at heart but positively bursting with vibrancy and character, 'Roto Chico' has all the elements it needs to become one of those odd-ball hits we get every now and again - a little bit against the grain, a tad left of centre but, a quirky little worker that grabs the attention and gets talked about in all the right places.

'Roto Chico' by Brigada Mercy absolutely oozes with honest British charm and is instantly likeable. It's the kinda song that radio 'jocks' will love to play over and over. The 'gruff' vocals are delivered with a certain element of homely punkish attitude which sits cleverly juxtaposed to the nicely syncopated jollity of the rhythm section. Jazzy guitars add yet another bright element to the mix and jaunty backing voices punctuate and add density. Seriously entertaining stuff this; hard to fault and even harder to dislike - a winning formula? Methinks so!

Brigada Mercy are taking a slightly less obvious but equally viable route to stardom - if this is typical of their work then methinks they've come up with a recipe for success! Yes, I can see this one doing very well indeed and maybe, just maybe, Brigada Mercy will start to become a household name with their wonderfully rich eclectic style.
