Brian Harvey

Single - I Can

Play 90 second soundbite of 'I Can' @ 'CD quality'

'I Can' was one of the entries for the BBC's 'Making Your Mind Up' for a chance of representing the UK in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. Former East 17 frontman, Brian Harvey sings his heart out on this soulful ballad about his tormented and troubled past. With lyrics that most of us can relate to and take comfort from, Harvey tells of his struggle to come to terms with all that's happened to him over the years - optimism personified - moving on - moving up!

Harvey's puts his chequered past behind him as he belts out the heart-wrenching lyrics and gets on with his life without East 17. Showing what a great performer he really is, Harvey's 'I Can', for me, isn't really a Eurovision song - it's far too good and certainly isn't in the style we've become accustomed to over the years. However, coming hard on the back of all the recent 'boy band' chart successes 'I Can' is probably bang on the money and destined, rightfully, for a decent chart placing. The song is superbly written and totally suited to Harvey's style of vocal delivery. Beautifully orchestrated and superbly crafted 'I Can' should see Brian Harvey back where he belongs - in with the big 'boys'.

There was never any doubting that Brian Harvey was, and still is, a fine singer. Eurovision or no Eurovision, 'I Can' has quality and longevity written all over it. Yes it's 'pop' but that's where Harvey has always been and I'm happy to see the guy once again ready to take on all-comers as a solo artist. A great 'pop' chune!
