Play 90 second soundbite of 'An Open Book' @ 'CD quality'
'Written Ignition' is an album that rocks hard and fast but manages to retain a melodic core and never loses its sense of direction. Incorporating commercial sensibility but pushing at the boundaries and testing the listener, it fires on all cylinders and never once shows the likelihood of a misfire. Bohica set the temperature high and hurl controlled aggression into their monstrous rockin' melee.
A hefty sounding but sympathetic rhythm section lays down the solid and controlled foundations for the guitar to build on with monstrous riffs and scorching solos. It's a big sound that could so easily drown out the vocalist but it never happens; through good knowledge of dynamics, thoughtful mixing and superb arrangements the voice and hence lyrics shine out and allow the listener full access to the Bohica picture as a whole. Often frantic, bet seldom going down the road to total manic mayhem, Bohica carefully meld all the required elements together into what is a scary but radio-friendly end product.
Without doubt, 'Written Ignition' from the excellent Bohica is a pretty magnificent and damn cool piece of work. Sitting squarely astride several aspects of contemporary rock, it's a totally polished, head-bangin' album that just begs to be heard.
