B-Movie Heroes

@ The Marr's Bar, Worcester - 5/7/02

O.K., we all get things wrong sometimes. I'd seen Worcester locals, B-Movie Heroes twice previously. On both occasions I thought that the best thing about them was their name - a great name - but not a lot else!! They never seemed to be very professional, they seemed a little contrived, sometimes uneasy with themselves and musically not the best thing going.

Well, that was before and this is now!! B-Movie Heroes had the good fortune to get the support slot to The Damned here tonight. A capacity crowd witnessed B-Movie Heroes come of age tonight with a great professional performance. Perhaps they responded to the slightly older age group in front of them. Perhaps it was the Damned thing. Maybe I had been wrong before. Certainly, they were given a great sound tonight and I know that helped. But, there was more than just that - the guys were excellent!

Original songs of quality performed with energy by what now appeared to be a class act. B-MH (great name as well, oh, have I already said that?) are Neil Phillips, guitar and lead vocals, Dean McCreadie, guitar and vocals, Dave Halloran, bass and Scott Garrett, drums. The guys tore their way through a half hour set that warmed the audience up nicely. Strong and clear vocals were easily heard over the two cleverly interacting guitars of Neil and Dean. Dave's heart stopping (or should that be heart starting?) bass lines punctuated the lead men, and the non-stop, driving drumming of Scott was magnificent.

The things I didn't like previously had vanished. Many things that I do like had appeared. B-Movie Heroes (great name by the way) looked good - they sounded good - I'm sure they did themselves some good. A great set of strong songs from a very hard working young band - a great support - I'll be back!!
