Blues Mix do the slightly Americana blues like it used to be when it took off as a respected and influential genre in the mid to late 60's - when Britain finally started to get the blues 'picture' and the genre was brought to the 'kids' of the day; subtle, keyboards al la Al Kooper and Mark Naftalin, soulful sax al la Dick Heckstall-Smith and Johnny Almond, respectful but empathetically gutsy guitar al la Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield - hey, that's cool and that works!! Now add a superbly proportioned rhythm section and finish it all off with vocals that are almost understated but heartfelt and you've got a sound that's gonna do the blues with subtlety and finesse. And, that's just about where Blues Mix are comin' from; blues that's gently persuasive, slick blues, sensitive blues. 'Biding My Time' is sublimely restful yet intriguingly intoxicating.
I like what I'm hearing here! I like Blues Mix's laid back approach to the genre - it's not retro, it's not old-hat, Blues Mix's way is just simple but effective and what they do, they do with such style and focus. 'Biding My Time' by Blues Mix is blues from the heart, blues from soul. Blues Mix are probably taking a bit of a risk with their choice to do away with modern blues guitar-rampant solos and get back to some invention and change the dynamics of it all. After all, horns and keys generate just as much feeling as any guitar that I know - and this is what Blues Mix do so well - the blues 'mix'!! This is impressive stuff and I enjoyed every minute of 'Biding My Time' - it's a little cracker and a winner as far as I'm concerned!
'Biding My Time' by Blues Mix takes the blues across the road and looks at it from the other side - a stonkin' album from a very tasty sounding band!!
