Play 90 second soundbite of 'You Plague Me' @ 'CD quality'
'Why You Left Me' is a three track EP that just roars along with pacey rock riffs and high energy. 'Taxi' gets things off to a pretty good start and sets the scene nicely; rockin' rhythms, punchy licks 'n' riffs and that basic, raw energy - it's a great opener! 'You Plague Me' is probably my favourite.
More crunchin' riffs, more high octane content and a great guitar solo - just non-stop head-bangin'! 'Why You Left Me' is the third and final piece and gets off to a cracking start with wild guitar intro before settling down into another great rock work.
Black Light UK have chosen a very competitive genre here. There's loads of similar minded acts out there and at the moment Black Light UK haven't found anything to stamp their mark with. Oh they're good - no doubt. But, they need something more memorable. Their songs are musically extremely well thought out and played. Vocally there's a certain rawness which sits well with the music. Lyrically is were I feel there's room for improvement; sometimes the words just feel a little uncomfortable in the melodies. Nothing seriously wrong - it just need work, a little polishing.
Based on just three track it's hard to criticise anyone and what Black Light UK have laid down here shows great promise. Their power and drive absolutely shines through. Their musicianship is excellent and their energy is awesome. Black Light UK are heavy, heavy monster with a bright future. They'll work, they'll impress and they'll improve.
