Black Light Burns

Double CD - Cover Your Heart

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Rid Of Me' @ 'CD quality'

Black Light Burns is a pretty bizarre but intriguing collective put together by Limp Bizkit's Wes Borland and 'Cover Your Heart' is a pretty unusual album of mainly covers done Borland stylee. In-yer-face with full-on rocked-up rock'n'roll drama and compostitional originality, Black Light Burns take risks as they mess with sound and form.

'Cover Your Heart' is pretty much rammed with rancid rockin' ditties done in a completely new way - it's fresh, it's angular and it's pretty damn 'dirty'!! On the whole, 'Cover Your Heart' pushes aside all the normal rules of commerciality and stands loud and proud in all its glorious, flagrant disregard for the aural health and safety of listeners. The sound is generally big and bold and 'Cover Your Heart' refuses to sit still as it bounces in, out and through genre limitations and expectations. Max it out - go on, play the bugger really loud to reap the true rewards here!!

Superbly structured and carefully assembled, 'Cover Your Heart' finds Borland et al sticking two fingers up at rock normality with Black Light Burns putting a whole different slant on some very interesting and fairly surprising songs as they pay homage to some of the greats that've influenced and driven them. This aint easy listening, this aint a stroll in the park, this is an album that needs to be given time and space to really get the benefit of its heady, ball-crunchin' originality. It's worth the effort though - once you're in, there'll be no turning back!!

Ok, so Black Light Burns tend towards the outrageous - certainly somewhat tangential, if not completely deranged. 'Cover You Heart' is a blast if you just let it be what it is and don't think too much about what's goin' down. Black Light Burns come out all guns blazing to turn these great songs on their heads and deliver some damn fine grit-rock along the way. Two discs here, one of ten lyrical followed by seven instrumental works timing out at some fifty-five minutes, plus an additional DVD offering - loads of stuff to grab the attention, loads to enjoy, loads to test and challenge the senses. 'Cover Your Heart' by Black Light Burns' is an album of songs that border on experimentation - nothing's what it seems, everything's slightly left of centre, all's slightly askew - loads of distorted sound, lots of fx laden riffs, big punchy vibes, plenty to talk about. Maybe not for everyone but, if you feel the need to partake of something really different and you want to be assured of satisfaction, perhaps 'Cover Your Heart' by Black Light Burns is gonna be right up your street! Certainly different, definitely a challenging trip, without doubt a dark but bloody rewarding journey through acid-rock territory - like nothing else I know, 'Cover Your Heart' by Black Light Burns is hard to describe but works because of its sideways glance at rock'n'roll normality. It's a bit of a brute but well worth the effort and certainly worth givin' a go!
