CD - Bella Absolutia

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Edge To Edge' @ 'CD quality'

Ex Volta singer, songwriter and erstwhlile guitarist Bel left a decent legacy when the band split and she returned homeward to America. It comes in the form of this superb five track work, 'Bella Absolutia'. With her excellent vocals she rides high over the great riffs and rhythms laid down by fellow ,ex Volta guys, Dave Draper and Joe Singh. The whole is beautifully engineered and mixed resulting in an extremely impressive goodbye package. Four tracks written by the diminutive Goddess herself and one cover in Lennon & McCartney's 'Across The Universe'.

The only bad thing here is that there's just five tracks; more would be more than just a bonus. This is the best vocal outing I've come across from Bel; it's clear, uncluttered and very very professional sounding. Overall, there's still a little of the latter day Volta sound and style here but I'd expect that as Bel wrote many of their lyrics too!

Every track carries a really good groove; some heavier than others but all superb. 'Created Repeated', 'Edge To Edge', 'The Spark' and the excellent 'Sensation Centres' are Bel's lyrically self penned numbers; each carries a wholesome, catchy riff in true Dave Draper style. Bel's version of 'Across The Universe' finishes the work off in a slightly more mellow vibe - an outstanding version!!

Like her, love her or hate her (although I don't know why you'd do the latter!), Bel has left us true music lovers a great reminder of what she's capable of. I just hope she finds the time and energy to carry on with her music now that she's back 'home'. For me, Bel will be sadly missed - but thanks to 'Bella Absolutia' I've now got a piece of her that I shall cherish and enjoy.

Goodbye Bel, good luck and thank you for your legacy of 'Bella Absolutia'.
