Becky Rose

Demo

Play 90 second soundbite of 'The Dress In My Wardrobe' @ 'CD quality'

Bloody hell!! Well, here's a young lady that's got something a bit different to offer; singer/songwriter/keyboard virtuoso Becky Rose kinda knocked me sideways when I first put this impressive promotional CD on the player - described as 'progressive/indie/emo' on her Myspace page, Rose is all of that and much more! I was pretty-much dragged into her dramatic world and hooked after the first few bars and the scary thing is she didn't let me go for one second - not that I wanted to be released anyway!

Rose's songs are full of drama, quite complex sounding and pretty awesome. She delivers her songs with massive heart and occasionally, just occasionally, there's the odd 'pitchshift' that, maybe not truly professionally acceptable, is somehow totally in keeping with her massively vibrant and pretty sensational dynamic way. Now, to say that this demo is eclectic would be an understatement; Rose takes the listener on a voyage of contemporary musical discovery - variation aplenty, emotion in abundance, theatrical, dramatic, at times aggressive, at others pained and sentimental, it's got everything!

Still only seventeen, Becky Rose has a strength and power in her voice that belies her tender years; the voice and confidence of a much more mature woman positively erupts from her vocal chords and no matter what they are called on to do they respond wonderfully well - wow!! Her keyboard work is as amazing as her vocal work; big, bold, punchy, charismatic, full of life and energy - enormous!! Superlative overload - I could go for ever! As a songwriter Becky Rose also shows maturity and great vision; she cites several 'names' in her biog as having influenced her but Rose doesn't try to emulate any of them preferring rather to be inspired and encouraged by the already established but remaining absolutely true to herself. Remarkable stuff for such a young 'soul'!! Hey, and astute too; together with this five track demo she sent me a two track DVD of live performances - she's good, damn good - the quality of the sound on the DVD might not be the best I've ever come across but, by God, can she perform!!!! Excellent!!

To say that I'm impressed by Becky Rose is also an understatement; the potential here is pretty immense and damn scary. With this sort of natural talent, confidence and self-belief, Becky Rose should be able to go far and win hearts and minds wherever she's seen and/or heard. It won't be an easy ride though, it never is but, something tells me that this girl is just too focussed and determined to be thwarted by the fussy and fickle musical 'establishment' - being at the right time, at the right place and with that little bit of luck could see Becky Rose make rapid inroads towards commercial acceptance and success. Certainly one to watch out for, Becky Rose has a very special talent - she's individualistic, intriguing and sensationally enjoyable. Blimey, I'm totally hooked!!
