Call it confidence, call it 'balls', it matters not what name you give it, Jerams absolutely sparkles, she's got a presence and a delivery that shouts 'special', that cries 'star'; that quality is hard to explain but you just know it when you hear it. And, Becky Jerams has got it - plain and simple, that certain something, that hard to define quality, call it X-Factor if you wish, Jerams has got it, masses of it, shed-loads of it!!
The title of this quite exceptional album, 'One More Step', could just turn out to be prophetic - 'One More Step', given some luck, good exposure and good press may prove to be exactly that, 'one more step' in the right direction, towards the big league! Jerams has stuffed this album with eight (**) quite stunning tracks; brilliant, mature songwriting that runs the gamut of 'themes', emotion, observation, comment, humour and just about everybloodything else in between! The songs are superbly executed and, I'd like to add, have been very impressively produced. I don't often highlight the studio 'techs' but a certain Ashley Cutler has done a crackin' job here - he's given Becky Jerams exactly the right treatment to ensure she 'rings' out with amazing clarity, brilliant 'attack' and extraordinary strength. Well done Sir, great work!! The running order here has been very well thought out too; the opener being a really in-yer-face, punchy groove that just grabs the attention from the 'off', then Jerams works her way effortlessly through some sentiment, some humour and some drama - everything's just so....clever and bloody impressive!! (** Make that nine tracks with a quirky 'hidden' ninth that just sums this lady up so very well!)
Becky Jerams shows with 'One More Step' that the 'unsigned' can conceive, create and perform every bit as well as the 'signed'. Jerams certainly knows how to turn it on - this is a quite breathtaking piece of work and one that deserves to 'get out there' and help Jerams on her way to something bigger and somewhere better; to that magical, musical 'place' that I'm sure she's dreamed of time and again.
'One More Step' by Becky Jerams is one of those special albums that come your way every so often; special in its entirety but, more importantly, special because of it's potential!! I really hope the Jerams promo 'team' can get this album distributed to 'those that matter' and to 'those who can make a difference' - 'One More Step' deserves exposure , deserves plaudits, deserves success. 'One More Step' by Becky Jerams is everything it should be, everything you'd want it to be, everything it needs to be - a real pleasure to behold and a real bloody gem!!
