Play 90 second soundbite of 'When The Chemicals Ignite (With Fuel)' @ 'CD quality'
Beat Six stick to a well tried and tested pop formula but add their own contemporary nuances and indie energy. Their big sound falls heavily on the pop side of rock; they swap attitude for polish and bare-bones for big production to come up with what can only be described as a solid wall of sound behind the slick vocals - think Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet but without the fancy clothes and new romantic ethos - Beat Six are smooth rather than brash, silky not coarse!.
Three tracks here in total - all pound out the Beat Six message with massive professionalism and well honed precision. If modern indie music tends to be male dominated both in execution and appreciation, Beat Six create a sound that's kinda sexless, that'll probably be appreciated by girls as much as boys, less balls but more sensual, less grit more sugar - eunuchrock maybe? Hey, that sounds a bit cruel - not meant to be, just words!!
'When The Chemicals Ignite (With Fuel)' by Beat Six is a very tidy piece of work and Beat Six show that they're trying to lead rather than follow. Is the music world ready for 'more of the same' though? I'm not sure! Beat Six are a crackin' sounding outfit and will no doubt do very well but their retro leanings may just hold them back at a time when loads of people are looking for innovation and newness.
