Play 90 second soundbite of 'Cry' @ 'CD quality'
You may have heard of Bassboosa by way of their stunning and very original cover of Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game'; a track that made it pretty big in the USA. If you were lucky enough to have heard that then you'll already be half way to knowing what this excellent outfit are all about. For me, the only comparison I can make is to liken Bassboosa to a '07 update of Morcheeba. And, like Morcheeba, Bassboosa have put in a great deal of time and effort to ensure that the final production of this exquisite album is stunningly crafted, suitably polished and finally, beautifully packaged. All the more remarkable when you realise this is almost entirely home-produced! The overall sound here is crisp and bright; the songs are generally on the gentler side of pop and tend towards the sultry (bordering on sensual!), atmospheric rather than pure pop.
'Bassboosa', the album, is pretty sensational from start to finish; the 'band' have done a fantastic job with the recording and the end result is superior to many works I've heard from the big studios. Even if this kinda music is not normally in your remit, 'Bassboosa' is very hard to ignore and even harder to dislike. Bassboosa should be congratulated on this work and I really hope it brings the success it so richly deserves. 'Bassboosa' by the 'band' of the same name is a fine example of mature, contemporary pop music and Bassboosa have set themselves a massive target for the future - just how will they keep up this standard. Quite stunning!!
