Play 90 second soundbite of 'Play My Heart' @ 'CD quality'
Barbara J Hunt is very much in the same acoustic mould as Joni Mitchell and, I have to say, I don't really understand why Hunt hasn't already climbed to the heights and become a household name; 'Play My Heart' is certainly good enough to have taken the world by storm instead of which it's somehow managed to languish pretty-much in the low-lights of acoustic obscurity (relatively speaking!). My God how does something this good not find its true and proper level? How did Barbara J Hunt slip through the commercial net? I know Barbara has had a degree of success that many artists would be more than grateful to attain but really she should be right up there with the big and famous names!! I know it takes talent and luck to reach the heady heights of stardom; Hunt definitely has the former so I guess she hasn't been all that lucky thus far - perhaps the time is now right, perhaps 2009 will prove to be the year for Barbara J Hunt to truly break through. I'd certainly like to think so!
'Play My Heart' is a pretty varied affair in terms of both mood and feel; from soft and mournful right through to quite brash and bold Hunt runs the gamut of emotions, tempos and dynamics. Hunt writes quite beautifully and she has a very pure and precise vocal delivery (again, think Joni Mitchell!!) which is accompanied and punctuated by some finely crafted guitar work. Wonderfully proportioned support instrumentation is given by a few similarly ilked and like-minded 'friends' and the whole work is treated to some impressive studio mixing and production - this is quality, this is fantastic!! Yes, 'Play My Heart' really is a beautifully crafted affair and hopefully the screening of the movie will re-awaken interest in this brilliant singer/songwriter and then perhaps 'Play My Heart' will start to sell in the quantities it deserves to and Barbara J Hunt will be lifted up to where she so obviously belongs.
Barbara J Hunt clearly shows here that she has all the qualifications required to make it big-style; Lady Luck please be with her now and let's see Barbara J Hunt reaping her just rewards - Britain needs a female artist of this calibre in this genre - Barbara J Hunt, with 'Play My Heart' must surely now take those few steps more and raise her profile to match her 'game'. Quite beautiful this one - Barbara J Hunt shouldn't just be the pride of the South-West, she should be the pride of Great Britain and 'Play My Heart' should be a monster hit album for this quite brilliant artist!!
