Play 90 second soundbite of 'Did It Again' @ 'CD quality'
The mix here I find a little strange cuz it seems a little subdued when it could be much more in-yer-face sharp and emboldened. It's like the keys, synths or whatever are being suppressed or held back even though they are of prime importance to the overall feel of the song. Sure the slightly staccato drums and pumping bass drive the 'machine' but, the 'keys' could still be much more prominent and offer an altogether bigger dynamic. The vocals sit similarly wrapped in 'fluff' and seemingly aren't allowed to quite get to the fore like I'd expect. Oh well, perhaps it's just me being picky just plain stupid - but that's how I see it!!
As a viable single, 'Did It Again' is sufficiently bubbly and vivacious to grab the attention and the whole 'kick-back' retro feel is pretty tasty and enjoyable. Still I can't see 'Did It Again' by Baby Gravy really coming up trumps for the band - it's all a bit too uninspiring and if not flat then certainly 'level' for my liking. There's undeniable energy in the piece and there's certainly a drive and potential density in there to make a mark but I'm still not totally convinced about this one. I can, however, hear some great pop sensibility within this outfit such that I feel that even if they don't quite get it right with 'Did It Again' I'm sure Baby Gravy will come bouncing back with something meatier and much stronger.
'Did It Again' by Baby Gravy just misses the mark for me; a little more oomph, a bit more forcefulness and perhaps it'd hit the spot harder and quicker. 'Did It Again', for me, just lacks real presence; the hooks are there but those hooks alone aren't quite strong enough to persuade me that Baby Gravy will have a hit with 'Did It Again'.
