while being drowned in a sea of shoegazeness by the Cocteau Twins', Autorotation take a distinctly angular approach to their electronic biased sonic 'overtures'.
Autorotation aint exactly experimental in the true sense of the word but they sure do push at the boundaries of musical normaldom! Their variously hypnotic and mechanical works lean heavily on programmable snippets, loops and things generally digital. Tuneful, melodic 'orchestrated' passages vie with obtuse and often disturbing interjections as tripzotic beats decorate and intensify the theme and gorgeous female vocals sweep gracefully but often eerily across the soundscape. Autorotation make a modern but somewhat cultish 'noise' that's probably not at all commercial insofar as most of their 'songs' are typically album oriented 'interludes' rather than short and catchy tempters. But, 'Everything Is Everything' aint just about tweakin' with electronica and techno-gadgetry, oh no, the Autorotation sound is, naturally, derived from all things analogue and digital but the individual band members are also clearly seriously good multi-instrumentalists and lay down some damn fine 'real' sounds using 'proper' instruments along the way - these 'guys' are talented and show it!!
'Everything Is Everything' by Autorotation is an album that really needs to be listened to and absorbed to be fully appreciated; much of what's going on is, I suppose, heady, evocative and thought provoking rather than instantly poppy and/or indie ordinary. Autorotation kinda make modern 'symphonic' music that I could see being delivered to a mind-numbed audience at an 'alternative Proms' kinda gig - maybe not 'Rule Britannia' exactly but definitely music to invigorate and excite in a similarly motivating and awe inspiring way.
'Everything Is Everything' by Autorotation is an excellent example of modernistic art-music - 'Everything Is Everything' is intelligently conceived and maturely delivered experimental electronica - popular modern meets the pseudo 'classical' as two (or more) musical forms are carefully and professionally intertwined into one conjoined art-form that straddles musical cultures and popular themes and sets new standards for others to match. Seriously good stuff this - listen and listen well, let Autorotation into your life and let their beautifully inspiring music into your day - very cleverly crafted and extremely well performed - and pretty damn good!!
