EP - Let's Kill Fame

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Aceface' @ 'CD quality'

'Let's Kill Fame' is a new three track work from the enigmatic song machine that is Astariel. With a deep desire to move away from the drudge that, all too often, is indie rock but not really wanting to be an acoustic performer, Astariel is toying with musical cross-over and the result is somewhere between David Bowie, Tindersticks and Soft Cell.

The comparisons are fair enough and justified although Astariel almost defies categorisation but tends towards vocalised electro-experimentation with hints of glam. His is a decent attempt at transmogrification of dark electro beats with ballsy indie phrasing and glam rock delivery or as he himself puts it, "gutsy electro with pop syncopation and technological menace". Punchy, infectious chunes that get into yer head but remain decently danceable and have a deeper meaning!

'Let's Kill Fame' comprises, 'Aceface', 'Hearts At Stake' and 'Knock It On The Head (Astariel's Lament)' - each sufficiently removed from the other in terms of overall mood but each built from solid, grinding beats and catchy riffs. Overall, 'Let's Kill Fame' is a pretty good attempt at being something different and although its roots are firmly in 80's retro there's a nice contemporary feel to the end product. It's still early days in the latest incarnation of songsmith Astariel and his moody blend of modern pop work. I can't help but feel there's still more to more yet as Astariel truly finds his cutting edge and develops his emotionally charged wares.
