Army Of Freshmen are from Ventura, California, they're a six-piece outfit and they make a pretty big 'noise' between them. Think Green Day, think Bowling For Soup, also then think Army Of freshmen - that sugary yet ballsy powerpop, that infectious rockin' pop that's hard to ignore and equally hard to sit still to - all that and more!! With six in the band it'd be all too easy for these guys to cause dynamic confusion and instrumental clutter; Army Of Freshmen don't go there!! These guys manage to contain themselves in the mix; nobody gets priority when they shouldn't, nobody get drowned out, everything's just so. The guys seem to have a good handle on what it takes to make sweet music for the kids - and they get it absolutely right!
Full of ballsy rock riffs, rammed with pop sensibility, loaded with great harmonies and vocal interchanges, hard-driven, attitudinal punk-laced pop played with passion and finesse - all is good, all is well, Army Of Freshmen lay it down with smart respect for your ear drums - powerful without going totally ballistic - catchy, clean, singalongable and ebullient sounding - right on the money!
'Above The Atmosphere' by Army Of Freshmen doesn't actually go anywhere different, it doesn't really take any risks, it certainly pulls up short of innovation. However, this well tried and long tested formula for commercial powerpop continues to do well and Army Of Freshmen should continue to pound out their infectious wares just as long as they want and the public will allow. Certainly there's still a massive market for this kind of pop music - that market aint gonna dry up any day now so I guess Army Of Freshmen have every chance of joining in with the big boys. 'Above The Atmosphere' by Army Of Freshmen is safe, harmless and pleasurable - moms and dads don't need to worry about what Army Of Freshmen are gonna 'feed' the kids; this is simply honest-to-goodness powerpop done to an absolute turn - all rocked up and ready to roll, Army Of Freshmen don't push the envelope but they do fill it to burstin' with their catchy songs and contagious music. Nothing new then but nothing wrong either, 'Above The Atmosphere' by Army Of Freshmen is just typically weighted powerpop for the kids - let 'em 'ave it guys - they'll love it!!
