Play 90 second soundbite of 'When The Right Woman Does You Wrong' @ 'CD quality'
Gomes shows great guitar virtuosity here and he has a voice that's got an earthy 'crust' that sounds ten years older than the guy actually looks - well weathered and gritty yet soulful and solid as rock. I suppose Gomes is doin' to blues somethin' akin to what Prince did to pop and soul - he's bringing new dynamics, new energy and innovation as he crosses into genre that normally don't quite go with blues rock. It's a triumph of melodic blue and funky rock that's boisterous, vibrant and totally intoxicating.
Gomes has surrounded himself with a band of musicians who clearly understand what Gomes is aiming for and they bolster his 'lead' with supreme playing that never confuses matters - whether they're funkin' it up, laying down soul style backing vocals or just groovin' the blues, it's simply quality through and through. The album is engineered and produced with absolute precision and attention to detail - the sound is rich, full and massively impressive. Nothing's been left to chance here as Gomes and his 'team' give 100% to make 'Music Is The Medicine' an awesome album of epic proportions.
Anthony Gomes is in that unique and enviable position where he will appeal to many 'schools' of musical preference - contemporary blues, rock, funky, jazzed up soul - all-comers welcome and all-comers will take this stunning work! My God, he even throws in some anthemic sounding rock balladry that could make 'charts' around the world. And, Gomes' guitar work is absolutely fantastic; whether he's pickin' some dirt, slidin' some grit, blowin' free and easy on lead or just simply strummin' some stuff, Gomes gets so much feeling into his playing - superb!! Anthony Gomes should be heard loud and sharp so turn the db's to max and make sure you've got balance and tone levels set to optimum to get the most out of this fantastic album.
'Music Is The Medicine' by Anthony Gomes is contemporary blues-rock at its most elegant and soulful; something special to get down to and just take it for what it is, a massively appealing and supremely bright piece of modern music-making to suit most tastes. Stunning work from Anthony Gomes and his brilliant band - and, watch the skies coz this guys set to soar!
