Allegro

EP - Allegro Forever

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Citylights' @ 'CD quality'

What this ball-jerkin' EP lacks in production finesse it more than makes up for in raw energy and pure punk-poppin' power.

'Allegro Forever' is supposedly a four-track EP (although four are listed, 'Citylights', 'Stringys', 'Alright' and 'I'll Be There For You', I've only got three of 'em!!!!!! My 'Alright' appears to be missing!!) from lo-fi punksters Allegro; running high on adrenalin and pumped full of aggressive savvy Allegro pound out their infectious songs with no respect for your aural health. Lo-fi could even be referred to as 'base' as far as Allegro are concerned; but, it's that earthiness and tangible grit and grind that makes Allegro the force that they are - no pretty pretty for these guys this is real brutally stripped down stuff, as honest as the day is long, full of sweat, guts and probably a fair few drops of blood too!

Allegro are a young five-piece outfit and their breathless punk wares are modestly under-stated yet totally captivating; the songs are short, punchy and a sgrubby as fuck!! No new-fangled studio whistles and bells for Allegro, these boys tell it like it is and bring it on home with pure guts and real musical honesty. The guys sure can play and they work superbly as a unit in order to deliver their simmering, searing songs with heartfelt reality and 'fuck anyone who gets in our way' attitude.

There's nothing to chose between the songs on offer here, they're all pretty much of a muchness in terms of feel and all similarly up-tempo and kick-ass rockin'. Allegro may not go down too well with musical purists but their 'thrash-pop'-'slash-rock' will go down a treat with the student and more youthful fraternity. This is really cool, a bit like the '70's all over again, it's angry edged stuff and deserves to be heard although most radio jocks will probably, sadly, give Allegro a wide berth - where's John Peel when you need him?!
