Valentine delivers his songs with the same sort of believability and boy-next-door approach that worked so well for Nick Drake. His higher register vocals are reminiscent of the great tones of Ian Matthews (are you old enough?) and add a certain friendly and cheery touch to the beautifully melodic songs. Probably still just more folk than true pop, Valentine writes quite beautifully; he combines elements of acoustic folk with superbly thought out 'orchestration' that add sensitivity and depth to his already expressive songs. Valentine has a generally laid back ezy feel that's gentle yet invigorating and his songs are far from being soporific; Valentine writes with 'old-school' poetic elegance tinged with nu-romantic grace and accompanies his descriptive words with a contemporary folk ambience that's aptly gentle but dynamically punctuative.

Certainly, Valentine's words and voice have the ability to reach deep inside you but they also can make you feel as though Valentine is singing to you and no-one else but you. 'A Short Album About Love' is a bit like a good wine; it starts of well with great ingredients, it begs to be 'opened' and 'tasted' and once tried it tempts you back with its addictive and fulfilling nature.
