Play 90 second soundbite of 'Live Again' @ 'CD quality'
Stacks of potential maybe but currently, for me, just lacking an edge; the style of songwriting both lyrically and instrumentally cries out for a real solid, no-holds-barred approach but I can't help but feel that there's just not enough guts and passion applied here - particularly vocally. Now that's not to say that Age Of Sin can't do it! This demo feels like they were just a little scared of really letting go when they put this work together. Something's missing and I can't quite put my finger on it - Age Of Sin can write, they can play and they sound pretty tight. If I had my way I'd lock them in a small and empty room without food and water until they screamed to be let out - angry and hungry they'd probably let their anger out into their performance.
Although there's some pretty cool stuff going on, at the moment, Age Of Sin don't sound or feel like they're sinning enough - they need to find more energy and anger, more love and hate that should be an integral part of this particular genre. They should open up old wounds to let the hurt come out and inject that hurt into their performance.
That said, Age Of Sin do mix it up a bit here with a good variety of pace and mood. The songs certainly have plenty going for them - there's loads goin' on so there should be more than enough to get their teeth into. Age Of Sin have all the tools at their disposal - they just need to learn to use and probably abuse those tools - to get themselves really angry and passionate and let the emotions pour out into their hands, feet and voices.
I don't want to sound negative because these guys deserve better and Age Of Sin will probably work well off the back of this demo. But, if they choose to let rip and really feel their music, I think they'd do even better. This is a pretty good effort but I think there's more to come yet from Age Of Sin.
