About Toxic Reviews

"OK, so why've you bothered to build a web site?", friends and colleagues ask.

Well, originally I started by taking loads of photographs of a few local bands and artists. Then following a critique conversation with local musician Jamie Knight he encouraged me to think about writing reviews. Hence, I started reviewing the artists that I was photographing for local Fanzines such as Rhythm & Booze etc..

My photos were starting to attract interest and so were some of the reviews. It was then that I suddenly got the urge to put electronic pen to electronic paper and have a go at a web site. That way I could possibly share the photos with a larger group of people.

I like to support the local (Worcester) music scene but go to as many gigs as I can make and/or afford. If the mood takes me I go armed with digital camera and notebook and pen, whoever is playing.

I want to use this space to share my (hobby) work with others and to enable some of the bands to get their own web site addresses linked to sites such as this and some of the music venues. Who knows, it's possible that the artists could also gain from this site by attracting venues and promoters - I'd like to think that may happen at some time. With a reasonably impressive hit rate after the first two years I bought my own domain name, more webspace and this site is the culmination of all of that.

Originally I tried to use as many photos as my web space allocation allowed but, in order to put so many in, I've had to reduce the picture resolution considerably - so please don't be too critical! Since buying the larger webspace I'm now able to include much much more including mp3 soundbites taken from reviewed CD's etc..

One comment I've had is that I don't seem to give bad reviews. The reason for that is simple - I try to be open minded, to switch off from outside influences and review from the heart and soul. I don't always like what I hear and it's not always to my taste but I always try to offer constructive criticism rather than scathing words wherever possible. I'd like to think that I'm objective not subjective!!

So please read some of the reviews, take a look at the photos, listen to the soundbites and use the links to move to other sites - get to know the artists and when and where they're appearing. Please use this site in the way it was intended - to help the less well known outfits achieve some recognition!
