The venue is just what it says - a cellar pub. Maybe not the best acoustics in the world, not even the best place to see acts because of the bar's 'L' shaped room. But, what a great place to suck up the atmosphere and enjoy loads of local musicians just doin' what they do best - for free!!
And so to this very impressive album, '1147 Acoustic Music' is a compilation of tracks by eighteen people who are passionate about what they do. These eighteen 'individuals' are just a few of the regulars at 1147 but they give the listener a good insight into what organiser James Perry is trying to do at the venue. The CD goes out at just £5 and it's a fiver very well spent!! It's an impressive array of original songs that cover a wide spectrum of acoustic styles. The album is thoughtfully and sympathetically laid out to give the listener a simple, moody trip through some great acts and their musical wares. Most of the names here will be new to many but after just one listen you'll be wondering why you haven't heard the name or seen them play. Hey, I think that's what makes 1147 special - it's the unknown quantity, simply not knowing what you're gonna get. To single out any individual track or artist here would be totally unfair; suffice to say that '1147 Acoustic Music' is an exceptional piece of work that absolutely nails the ethos of what The Cellar Bar and James are trying to do.
If you get a chance to take a look at 1147, do it. Go and soak up the atmosphere created by loads of like-minded people enjoying themselves as the entertainers go through their paces. And, put your hand in your pocket and buy a copy of '1147 Acoustic Music' - it's a great piece of work!!
